Thomas George Prescott

Thomas George Prescott, 67, died on February 23, 2022, as a result of injuries sustained after being hit head-on by a suspected drunk driver.

Born May 29, 1954 to Robert and Patricia Prescott, Tom grew up with his 10 siblings on South Street in Concord, N.H., in a home enlivened by friends, music, art and literature. Tom graduated from Concord High School in 1972, joined the U.S. Army and honorably served for 33 years achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Tom gave his heart to a hometown girl, Pamela King, after taking one look at her beautiful blue eyes and she became his wife of 40 years. Pam was his rock, his partner, his best friend and mother to their greatest blessing, his daughter Amanda. Family was everything to Tom and his happiness only grew with the addition of Mandy’s husband, Eric, and adored grandchildren, Robin and Samantha. His last few hours were spent with his cherished family.

Tom’s service in the U.S. Army began with basic training at Fort Sam Houston and he later was stationed at Schweinfurt Garrison in Germany. Upon returning to the U.S., he joined the 804th Medical Brigade at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. He returned to Ft. Devens as and N.C.O. Unit Administrator of the 455th Chemical Brigade after joining the Army Reserves.

SFC Prescott served as a Medic in two armed conflicts and later as a Medic NCO. He was Squad Leader of the 595th Medical Clearing Company attached to the 24th infantry division that moved through Iraq in the most forward theater during the first Persian Gulf War, which earned him the Combat Medical Badge. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) and the Army Achievement Medal (AAM) as well. He deployed to Somalia during Operation Restore Hope in 1992.

Tom also worked at the V.A. Hospital in Bedford, Mass., and for the U.S.P.S. in Marlborough, Mass. Fellow medics, soldiers and colleagues recall his warm smile, steady leadership, encouragement, and heart-to-heart talks which continued until his final days. He was always there for his fellow soldiers to the end.

Tom became a lifelong adventurer after rappelling down the side of his family home as a boy. An avid cyclist and mountain climber, he became an accomplished Nordic skier and windsurfer and competed in triathlons in later years. He approached life with gusto and often with a cup of strong coffee in hand.

Tom was a spirited Christian who loved to sing Praise Music. His hearty laugh is remembered fondly by neighbors and his beloved daughter’s friends who enjoyed swimming in Tom’s backyard while he gamely flipped burgers poolside.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Prescott; his daughter, Amanda Matt; son-in-law, Eric Matt; and grandchildren, Robin and Samantha Matt.

His surviving siblings include Robert G. Prescott, II, James Prescott, Daniel Prescott (Valerie), Gail Heitmann (Scott), Margaret Butler, Denise Prescott (Eugene Paletta), Virginia Prescott (Matt Arnett), and Mark Prescott (Lisa Stringfield-Prescott).

Along with his parents, Tom was predeceased by his brothers, Steven and William.

Family and friends have shared their shock over his sudden and senseless death on FaceBook.  Tom's loved ones are grateful for their memories and support.
