Timothy D. Chickering

Born on October 13, 1957, in Keene, New Hampshire, Tim was the beloved son of Henry and Betsy Chickering of Chesterfield. He grew up surrounded by family, community, and a deep appreciation for hard work and the outdoors—values that would remain central throughout his life.

Tim is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Chickering, and his loving family, including his children and their spouses: Michele Chickering and Mike Bailey of Keene; Matthew Chickering and Laura Chickering of Surry; and Jeremy Jochums-Chickering and Felicia Jochums-Chickering of Walpole, Raymond Forbes of Chesterfield and Alaina Seavey and Jason Seavey of Swanzey.

He was a proud and deeply cherished grandfather to Gretchen and Connor Fairbanks; Haylee Hall; Carmella and Gabe Blake; Tessa Hall; Paige and Willow Chickering; Weston, Maddox, and Amara Jochums-Chickering; Devan, Jacob, and Savannah Forbes; Mason Fields and Monica Bennett; and Adam Seavey. Tim was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Tim is survived by his brother, Jeff Chickering and his wife Sandy Chickering of Chesterfield and his sister, Nancy Plante and her husband Mike Plante of Troy. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Betsy Chickering.

From an early age, Tim’s life was rooted in agriculture and community. As a teenager, he was active in FFA, Young Farmers of America, and 4-H—experiences that helped shape his lifelong passion for farming, animals, and the land. He went on to build a dedicated career working across New Hampshire’s working landscape, first driving milk trucks from local farms to the dairy plant, then hauling logs, and ultimately serving as a highway maintenance worker for the State of New Hampshire.

Outside of work, Tim found his greatest joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. He loved being outdoors—whether on his tractor, tending to animals, or sitting peacefully on the swing with Julie. His dogs, Lilly and Crabigail, were constant companions and a source of great comfort and joy.

Above all, Tim treasured time with his family. He took every opportunity to share his knowledge, whether about farming, animals, tractors, or life itself, always eager to guide and encourage the next generation. He especially enjoyed bringing his children and grandchildren to fairs for 4-H events, where he proudly supported their efforts and shared in their accomplishments. Tim also enjoyed backyard barbecues, time spent with neighbors Josh and Jess, and the everyday conversations that made life rich and full.

Those who knew Tim will remember him for his kindness, humor, generosity, and quiet strength. His love for his family and friends was unwavering and formed the foundation of a life well lived.

A potluck celebration of life will be held at his home on August 30, 2026, at noon in Chesterfield, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations will be collected at the service to support the nurses of the UMass 7th Floor ICU, in gratitude for their compassionate care and to help them continue creating meaningful keepsakes for families experiencing loss.

Timothy will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
