Valerie T Morgan

Valerie Morgan of Concord, New Hampshire (NH), formerly of the State of Rhode Island (RI), passed away peacefully at Concord Hospital while in a CMO status. Valerie was born in Providence, RI in 1950 to the late Harold Morgan and Delphine Fisett of Warwick RI. Valerie was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island (URI) where she majored in Prevention Services and Human Development. Valerie worked in the Substance Misuse Prevention field for the last 25 years. In 2018, Valerie retired from her position as the Administrator for Prevention Services from the State of NH Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services (BDAS) Department of Health and Humans Services (DHSS), after suffering an accident that left her a Quadrapelgic, where she then took on the additional role of advocating for Disability Rights and Access in NH. After her disability retirement, she also continued to serve on the NH Services to Science Expert Panel, convened by the DHSS, BDAS and JSI’s Center for Excellence on Addiction. Previously, Valerie also served as the Director of the South Kingstown, RI, Partnership for Prevention. Valerie was a sought after speaker, and regularly presented at parent-teacher conferences, local civic organizations, and attended Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSA) conferences throughout the United States to advocate for these causes.

Valerie enjoyed many activities with her loved ones, including Ballroom Dancing with both the RI and NH Amateur Ballroom Dance Associations, New Years Eve Balls, performance dance teams at Veteran Hospitals and Nursing Homes, volunteering her nights working at homeless shelters at South Church, kayaking, beach walks, hiking the White Mountains Trails, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, bird watching, and her amazing love of growing beautiful flowers and gardening. Moglie, Frankie, Brody, Milo, and Gredle, were dogs that got to be a part of her life. Valerie is survived by her soul mate husband Thomas Evans, and her beautiful children Amanda and Matthew McGuire, and her two grandsons Jace and Milo, who she all loved dearly.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Concord Hospital staff, Granite VNA, Rest Assured, REQ, REM, Dr. Hattan, and the countless support staff who made her comfortable, and helped her to overcome many of her medical obstacles over the years. Valerie will be sorely missed by many, and her legacy should be of someone who strived to help make this world we live in a better place.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date in the Spring of 2025 to be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations, SPCA of Concord NH, Concord NH Area Transit Program, or the Concord NH Coalition to End Homelessness Shelter.
