Valorie Seaman (Winter) Calef, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Granite VNA and Hospice in Concord, NH.

She was born on May 2, 1944, in Orange, NJ to Frederick Marmaduke Winter, Jr. and Dorothea Louise (Euler) Winter.

After graduating from Oakmont Regional High School, Valorie attended Cambridge School in Boston. She attended Graham Jr. College in Boston, Phoenix College in Arizona, and completed an introductory computer course at Penn State University in Media, PA.

Valorie was predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Paul Holmes Calef. She was married to Paul on April 1, 1967, in Ashburnham, MA. When Paul entered the Army, they moved to Phoenix Az. After Paul left the Army they lived in Mattapan, MA then Beverly Farms, MA. Paul later secured a job with Sylvania, and they purchased a house and moved to West Chester, PA. A few years later, they sold the house and bought Val’s favorite Amish-built house in Downingtown, PA. Which just happened to be right across the street from a tennis club that they joined and belonged to for many years as avid tennis players.

While in Pennsylvania, Valorie was employed in an art gallery in West Chester and in a frame shop in Exton where she lovingly framed many items. Val was employed by Dial Medical of PA where she was a customer service representative for hemodialysis equipment that supplied hospitals and dialysis centers throughout thirteen eastern U.S. states.

In 1993, Val won a new Aerostar Aurora 54 hot air balloon. The balloon was offered as a grand prize in a new membership drive. The balloon was named “Freeride”. Before she began flying her balloon, she worked crewing for aeronauts in Pennsylvania. After a balloon landed on their lawn, her son Geoffrey told her she should learn to fly herself. After she won her balloon, she passed the FAA test and went on to obtain her Private Pilot license which she was extremely proud of. Valorie was a member of the Balloon Federation of America. Being members of the balloon club she, Paul, dear friend Jenn and others travelled to Europe and across America to fly their balloons.

In their Downingtown home, she decorated the hand-hewn beams with a few baskets and old eggbeaters. Her ballooning friends saw these and started adding to her collection of old eggbeaters. Some days she’d come home to find an eggbeater on her doorstep.

Valorie and Paul were active members in the Episcopal Church of the Redemption in Centerville, UT, where they had many friends. As a retirement job in Utah, Val worked at Snowbasin so that she and Paul could get free ski passes to enjoy the incredible ski conditions in their free moments.

Val was a Guard in the International Chapter AH P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and in her officer role was very active in many committees and day-to-day business for the organization in Bountiful, UT. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, needle point, and jigsaw puzzles. Val was a member of the American Quilter’s Society and often had their pool table covered with fabric she was piecing together for her next project.

In 2020, Val enlisted her good friend Jennifer Goldbloom to help drive back to New Hampshire from Farmington, Utah. Val decided that she wanted to be near family and moved to Riverwoods Manchester. She made fast friends with many of the staff and residents. Val was a bartender and clerk at the in-house store “Treasures”. She loved going on the next adventure, bowling, a concert, a shopping trip, or a walk in nature.

Valorie is survived by her son Geoffrey Winter Calef of Montana; her sister Lucinda Smith (Winter) Zavelle and husband Michael of Lexington, Virginia; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
