Vernon L Randell, 88, of Hampstead, NH passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord at the Hyder House in Dover, NH on August 14th, 2017.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1929, Vernon was the son of Montague Ferguson and LaVerne Randell, adopted son of E.John Randell. He moved first to Somerville, MA and then to Wilmington, MA where in 1951 he married the love of his life, Beatrice Weatherbee Randell. In his younger years Vernon was a Boy Scout leader, volunteer fireman and a Wilmington police officer. For most of his working career Vernon was an iron worker, proud and respected member of Local 351 and longtime employee of Baldwin Steel.
Vernon and Bea moved to Methuen MA and spent many years wintering in FL before settling in Hampstead NH for the past 22 years.
Vernon was a member and Past Master of the Friendship Masonic Lodge in Wilmington and for many years played the drum in the Aleppo Temple Shrine Pipe and Drum Band. He was a member of the Hampstead NH VFW Post 11254. Vernon was a parishioner and former deacon of the Hampstead Congregational Church where he enjoyed reading the liturgy.
During the Korean War Vernon served in the United States Army. He trained in communications and became the company armorer while stationed in Germany.
Vernon liked a good suit, John Wayne and western movies. He enjoyed cribbage, poker and outwitting the squirrels. He liked a good joke, dessert and reading the paper. Vern was fond of his hat, ladders, the bagpipes and all things Scottish. Vern and his mustache were breakfast regulars at the English Muffin where he enjoyed the food and good friends. Above all else, he loved his family.
Vernon leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Beatrice, of Hampstead NH. His daughters, Susan Randell and Nancy Kelley and her husband Robert of Sandown NH. His sons, Kevin Randell and fiancé Bonnie Freeman of Rancho Cordova CA and Alan Randell and his wife Peg of Hampstead NH as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren . He also leaves his dear sisters Jane Palmer of Wilmington MA, Carol Munroe of Dunstable MA and Joyce Cail of Dunstable MA.
