BOW - Vincent D. De Vasto, age 90, died at Concord Hospital on Friday, July 4, 2008. He was born July 24, 1917, in New York City, N.Y. Vincent served in the U.S. Army Air Force 312nd Bomb Group during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines, and received an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and Philippines Liberation Ribbon. He attained the rank of Sergeant. On Feb. 21, 1943 he was united in marriage to Norma V. Funk of Germantown, N.Y. After the war, he accepted a position with Gristede Brothers, an upscale New York grocery chain that specialized in personal service and gourmet items, where he acted as manager of several stores over the years until his retirement in 1979. Vincent is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma, his three sons and their wives, Ronald and Susan De Vasto of Moreno Valley, CA, Dan and Cate De Vasto of Bow, NH, and George and Mimi De Vasto of Santa Clarita, CA; his two grandchildren, Marcus De Vasto, of Bow, NH, and Vincent and Buffy De Vasto and his great-granddaughter, Adalynn Claire De Vasto, all of Washington, DC. Also, Vincent is survived by his brother John De Vasto of Abilene, TX and his sisters, Anna Giannini and Angelina Di Dio, both of New York City, NY. He was predeceased by his brothers, Patrick of Santa Rosa, CA, and Frank of Tyler, TX, and sister Mary, New York City, NY. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2008, at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH. Donations may be made in his name to the Bow Fire Department/Rescue Squad, 10 Grandview Road, Bow NH 03304 in lieu of flowers.
