Virginia Beers

Virginia M. (Nagy) Smist Beers passed away peacefully on April 15, 2022, with her family by her side in Portsmouth, NH.

She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on January 13, 1923 to Joseph and Julia Nagy. Virginia was a 1940 graduate of Warren Harding High School, Bridgeport, CT, and after further education became employed by Singer Manufacturing. Thereafter, she was a homemaker and later employed by The Pediatric Practice of Dr. Kee Hung Hau.

Over the years, Virginia resided in Trumbull, Connecticut, Yarmouth and Castine, Maine, and Manchester and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she volunteered extensively in those communities.

She was an avid reader and gardener, loved rug making, knitting, sewing, woodworking, and spending time at the oceanside.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband and the father of her seven children, Walter P. Smist, in 1975, and thereafter by her husband, John P. Beers, in 1985. Virginia is survived by her children, Ginny Fischer, Mark and Peg Smist, Martha Rice, Greg and Julia Smist, John Smist, Margaret Smist and Bill Smalley, Erik and Ginny Smist; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Private Services and committal at Nichols Farms Burial Ground, Trumbull, CT, will take place at a later date.
