Virginia “Ginger” Garland Lane passed away on Monday, May 19, after a months-long illness, surrounded by family and friends at the New England Homes for the Deaf in Danvers, MA.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, William “Bill” Lane of North Hampton, NH; her daughter, Deborah Lane and daughter-in-law, Lucy Blood of North Hampton; and her son, Sean Lane and daughter-in-law, Melanie Lane of Barrington, RI. Ginger was a devoted grandmother to Torquil, Madison, Keith, Aidan, and Kellan, each of whom she loved deeply.

Born in Haverhill, MA, on July 1, 1941, Ginger was the daughter of Richard Garland and Sylvia Corthell Rainer. She grew up in West Newbury, MA, alongside her siblings Linda Garland Malbon and Gregory Garland. She attended the Boston School for the Deaf in Randolph, MA, and graduated from Pentucket Regional High School in 1961.

Over the years, Ginger worked for The Haverhill Bank, the IRS, and Foss Manufacturing in Hampton, retiring at the age of 71. She had a deep love for children and cherished time spent with both her deaf and hearing friends. Known for her generous spirit, joyful energy, and kind heart, Ginger brought smiles to all who knew her. She loved both people and animals and supported many causes close to her heart, including the Special Olympics and the ASPCA.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future at the New England Homes for the Deaf, where family and friends can gather to share memories and honor Ginger as a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.
