Virginia C. Martin

Virginia Clifton Martin, 85, of Concord, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on November 24, 2013. She was born in Duxbury, Vermont on July 16, 1928, to parents Ernest and Dora (Thompson) Clifton. Virginia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Waldo E. Martin, in 2004. She graduated from Waterbury High School in Vermont and from Lyndon State Teacher's College in Lyndonville, Vermont. She traveled with her husband in his US Army military career. Surviving are her three daughters: Juanita J. Martin of Concord; Cynthia M. and her husband, Raymond Twombly Jr., of Salisbury, NH; and Lisa M. and her husband, Andrew Lane, of Concord. Virginia is also survived by her three grandchildren: Melisa Porter, Raymond "Buzz" Twombly and his wife, Nikki; and Heather Sargent and her significant other, Tim Holt; as well as her six great-granddaughters, Abbigail, Ashley, Emily, Hadleigh, Molly and Brooke. Virginia was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by her family. She was lovingly known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in addition to the many children she cared for, as "Nanny". At her request, there will be no calling hours. Virginia will be buried with her husband at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen with a private graveside service at the convenience of her family. The Cremation Society of NH is assisting the family with arrangements. Messages of condolence may be offered at csnh.com
