Virginia "Ginny" Minerva Stanley, 90, of Gilmanton, NH passed away March 9, 2017 at the Golden Crest in Franklin.
Ginny was born in Lynn, MA on March 14, 1926 to Bertha M. (Pool) White and resided in Massachusetts until graduating from nursing school.
Ginny proudly served her country as a nurse in the United States Air Force. Upon honorable discharge from the military, She moved to Gilmanton in 1959 where she worked as a civilian nurse, and then as Postmaster until retirement in 1986. She was an active member of the Ellis-Geddes-Leavitt American Legion Auxiliary Post #102 in Gilmanton for 39 years, during which she served as 1st and 2nd Vice President, Chaplin and Chairman of the Unit Committee on National Security. She was also a head supporter of the Granite State Initiative and, upon the passing of her mother, Bertha White, she established the Bertha M. White Girls State Fund. Ginny also loved books and was an avid researcher of genealogy and enjoyed making jewelry.
Ginny is survived by her son, William D. Stanley III and his wife, Betsy, of Wilmot, N.H.; grandchildren, LCpl Ryan H. Stanley currently stationed at USMC Camp Lejeune Jacksonville, N.C., Caitlin T. Stanley of Lakeport, N.H., and Nathan D. Messenger of Wilmington, N.C.; great granddaughter, Madison L. Bassett of Lakeport, N.H. ; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members, Barbara Elliott of Penrose, CO and Billy Hoke of Boulder, CO.
Ginny will be laid to rest with military honors at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Lynn, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in Ginny's memory be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #102 c/o Mary Richardson, Treasurer, 136 Loon Pond Rd, Gilmanton, NH 03237 for the Bertha M.
