Walter J. Kisser

Walter J. Kisser, 87, of Campton, NH. died peacefully in the company of his beloved wife of 62 years on Saturday September 22 at Speare Memorial Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, Nov. 5, 1919 son of the late Lillian Marie (Steffens) and Julius G. Kisser. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School.

Walter was drafted into the Army in November 1941 and served for over four years with distinction in the Pacific Theater, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the 42nd Engineer Construction Battalion and receiving a number of military honors including: Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, American Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He declined a Purple Heart. After a tour of duty in the Aleutian Islands, he returned home to Brooklyn to wed Harriet Johanson prior to shipping out to the Philippine Islands.

After the war, Walter and Harriet resided in Queens Village and Huntington Station, N.Y. where they raised three children. Walter had a successful career in the bowling and floor refinishing businesses and once bowled a perfect 300 game. They retired to Campton, N.H. in 1992 where they enjoyed the New Hampshire life, and especially the company of their beloved grandchildren. Walter enjoyed bowling, baseball, swimming, politics, crosswords, good food and had a special affection for sweets.

Walter was survived briefly by his wife, Harriet, who passed away on October 2nd. He is survived by his son, Stephen Kisser of Manchester, NH, two daughters, Karen Kisser of Centerport, NY and Pamela Hallock of Newton, NH; and many dear friends.

IN HIS LIFE: In addition, other family members include; his four grandchildren, Hannah, Keith, Neil Hallock, and Fei Lin Kisser.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a joint interment service for Walter and Harriet at the VA cemetery in Boscowen, N.H. on Thursday Oct. 11 at 2:30 PM and a joint memorial service at the Campton Congregational Church on Saturday Oct. 13 at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladys’ Guild of the Campton Congregational Church PO Box 328 Rt. 175 Campton, NH 03223.
