It is with great sadness we bid an earthly goodbye to husband and father Warren Clinton Hyam, Jr., who passed early on the morning of Wednesday, July 20, 2016. His steadfast presence in our lives will be profoundly missed. He is survived by wife, Janice T. (Butler) Hyam; his four daughters, Cheryl Ann (Hyam) with her husband, Tim Stamper, Sharon (Hyam) Willier, Sheila, and Charlotte; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on August 7, 1932, to Warren C. Hyam, Sr. and Florence Marie (Erickson) Hyam, he attended public schools in Saugus and Lynn. Dad enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country with pride for 27 years at Army bases in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Colorado, Texas, and Germany. He is a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam campaigns, and was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, among others. His daughters are proud Army brats. He retired to Salem, New Hampshire, in 1978.
Dad loved to drive: Automobiles were his earliest and lifelong pastime. Dad also loved Elvis Presley movies and the music of Glen Miller. He had beautiful penmanship. He could whistle a tune, pack the trunk of a car with utmost precision, and very rarely lost his patience. He loved cats and dogs (especially Tobey, his frequent and dedicated companion for six years). When he retired, he became a devoted follower of the Boston Red Sox and a member of VFW Memorial Post 8546.
With our father, nothing was ever wasted, including conversation. He was a man of few words. Although he rarely said, "I love you" aloud, we never felt unloved. In our hearts, we knew that Dad cared deeply and wholeheartedly. In response to our farewells, he would quietly say "See you later" and "Love you too, babe." So it is with heavy hearts we say, "See you later, Dad. Love you from the bottom of our hearts to the far reaches of Heaven."
Arrangements: Private service and burial at the New Hampshire Veterans' Cemetery in Boscawen.
Memorial gifts in Mr. Hyam's name may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (https://www.aspca.org/).
