Rev. Dr. Wendell L. Baglow, 89, of Concord, NH passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29,
2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Wendell was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Braintree, Mass. He was the only child of the late Major and Dorothy (Shepard) Baglow. Wendell graduated from Weymouth High School Weymouth, Mass. in 1944 where he excelled on the baseball and basketball teams. After serving in the United States Navy, Wendell earned his bachelor's degree in English Literature from Wheaton College, Illinois in 1952. Afterwards, he obtained his bachelor of theology in 1956 and his masters in divinity in 1973 at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. He pursued further ministerial studies earning a doctorate from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania in 1984.
Dr. Baglow was ordained into the Christian ministry at First Baptist Church of
Revere, Mass. on June 16, 1956. He pastored several American Baptist churches in Massachusetts, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. These include Bay Road Chapel, Revere, Mass. (1954-1957); North Baptist Church, Brockton, Mass. (1957-1962); Stoughton Street Baptist Church, Dorchester, Mass. (1962-1969); First Baptist Church, Walled Lake, Mich. (1969-1986); Jackson Street Baptist Church, Scranton, Penn. (1986-1988); retiring at North Billerica Baptist Church, North Billerica, Mass. (1989-1995).
Dr. Baglow's service to ministry spanned over 40 years. In his pastoral ministries, he touched many lives and contributed greatly in each community that he served. He was known to care for his people as he affirmed them and was positive in their lives. He was always ready with a joke to bring a smile. During this time, he served on the library committee in Walled Lake, Mich. and Scranton, Penn., he co-taught teen mothers in the local school district, and was honored with "Wendell L. Baglow Day" on June 7, 1981 in Walled Lake, Mich. for his tireless community leadership and service.
Yet his greatest legacy is his family, where his steady love and Christian faith were
continually observed and passed on to his children and grandchildren. Over the years, he was present at many ball fields, courtsides, and stages to support his family. His affection for his grandkids was experienced by the many summer vacations he and his wife organized at York Beach, Maine. Wendell was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots.
Dr. Baglow was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Verta J. (Spinney) Baglow. Dr. Baglow is survived by sons Peter Baglow and his wife, Betsy, of Natick, Mass., Tim Baglow and his wife, Sue, of Walled Lake, Mich., and daughter Sue Klose and her husband, Clint, of Concord, NH. He was the cherished grandfather of Ashley Baglow of Amherst, Mass., Brittany Hennin and her husband, James, of Brighton, Mass., Cody, Dustin, and Ethan Baglow of Natick, Mass., Ryan Baglow and his wife, Britney, and great granddaughter Olive Baglow of Greenwood, Ind., Austin Baglow and his wife, Rachel, of Wind Lake, Wisc., and Kyle, Kiersten, and Caitlin Klose of Concord, NH. He is also survived by godson Ben Venator of Concord, NH and several nieces and nephews.
An 11:00 am memorial service is planned for April 28, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Melrose, 561 Main Street, Melrose, Mass., followed by a luncheon.
