Wilfred J. Coutu, 79, of Manchester and formerly of Dracut, MA died on October 27, 2001 at St. Teresa Manor after a brief illness. Mr. Coutu was born on March 5, 1922 in Lowell, MA the son of the late Eugene and Alma (Chalifoux) Coutu. He was a U S Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. Mr. Coutu was a painter for the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA for over 20 years. After retirement he moved to Raymond where he was a manager at CEI Corp. in Manchester for over five years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Dracut, MA. Family members include; three sons, Wilfred Coutu of Newmarket, Marc Coutu of Pembroke and Robert Coutu of Raymond; two daughters, Veronica Borlek of Elkton, Oregon and Yoland Vasselian of Magnolia, Texas; four grandchildren; one great grandson; one brother, Roland Coutu of Lowell, MA; four sisters, Yvonne Amatisto of Washington, Rita Mastrullo of Chelmsford, MA, Doris Chalifoux of Dracut, MA and Sr. Gertrude Coutu SGO of Lowell, MA; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Coutu was predeceased by his wife, Juliette (Chalifoux) Coutu, five brothers, Gerald Coutu, Harve Coutu, Henri Coutu, Leonel Coutu and Maurice Coutu and one sister, Lillian Myers. A memorial reception will be held on Thursday, November 1st from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire (an affiliate of Phaneuf Funeral Home), 243 Hanover Street in Manchester with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Lowell, MA.
