William Albert Bean, Jr., of Peterborough New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August, 27th, 1946 in Hillside, New Jersey to William A. Bean, Sr. and Mildred Shaeffer Bean.

Bill lived a life defined by dedication to family, service, hard work and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He proudly served as a member of the US Air National Guard at Pease Air Base in Portsmouth. He went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire, earning degrees in Forestry and Land Surveying, professions that perfectly reflected his lifelong connection to the land.

Throughout his career, Bill was an active and respected member of the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association, where he served as President in 1984 and 1985.Bill went on to represent NH as a delegate to the national ACSM from 1986-1988, which took him as far as Alaska. Later, in the 1990s, Bill served as a chairman and member of the Board of Licensure and contributed to the Benchmark publication into the 2010's. He was admired by colleagues for his knowledge and commitment to his field.

On October 28th, 1978, Bill married the love of his life, Lisa (Samson) Bean. Together they built a loving family and shared more than four decades of marriage. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Gretel McDaniel, born April 22nd, 1980 and Ethan Bean, born November 2nd, 1984. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Hillsgrove and her husband Jim Hillsgrove, Sr.

Bill found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially time spent at his beloved camp in Barnstead, which he owned since the 1970s. The camp became the setting for countless family memories and lifelong friendships. He loved boating, jetskiing, and sailing on the lake. He spent winter months snowmobiling and plowing snow throughout New Hampshire.

A true enthusiast of classic automobiles, Bill cherished his 1970 Pontiac GTO. He also found satisfaction in outdoor work, whether splitting and stacking firewood, tending to his yard or simply relaxing on the deck overlooking the lake he loved so much.

More than any accomplishment, Bill will be remembered for the love of family, his generosity and his sense of humor. His presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bill's life at a reception on Sunday July 12th from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture at 19 Grove Street, Peterborough New Hampshire 03458. Light refreshments will be served.
