William Carey, age 93, of Hudson, NH, passed away on April 28, 2024. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on January 27,1931 to William and Alba (Corso) Carey. He shared 34 years of companionship with his beloved wife, Michele Henderson.
William grew up mostly in the Washington DC area, and showed his avid interest in studying history, science, philosophy, psychology, and especially music. He fell in love with the Opera at age 4, and began to give voice lessons at 17. He completed his degree in music at the University of California, Riverside. William continued his passion for vocal music all throughout his long life. He was an
inspirational voice teacher and mentor to performers throughout the entire world. His students have gone on to successful professional singing careers in both Opera and Music Theatre.
Together with his wife Michele Henderson, William was a local force for music in New Hampshire through the Carey & Henderson Vocal Studios and as a cofounder of StageCoach Productions. William, who founded the San Bernardino Grand Opera in CA, and served on the Board of Directors of Opera New Hampshire, gave his last voice lesson just two weeks before he passed away.
Alongside his musical career, William was a piano tuner, carpenter, excellent amateur chef, gardener, avid fisherman, and a riveting story-teller. He enjoyed taking on difficult projects, such as building a boat in the back yard from scratch, remodeling his house, and turning raw beginners into professional singers. William was a devoted teacher and loved to share his immense knowledge on
many varied subjects. He shared his passion for the arts and love of nature with his family through innumerable visits to museums, concerts and trips to the national parks. He lived life to the fullest and we were truly blessed to have shared it with him.
William is survived by his wife Michele Henderson, his daughters Erin Tucker and June Carey, and his sons Martin Carey and John Carey.
William’s family would like to thank his many friends and vocal students for their loving support throughout the years.
Services will be held at Nashua Presbyterian Church, 1010 W. Hollis St., Nashua, NH, on Saturday, June 8 at 3:00 PM with refreshments to follow.
