William L. Horton

William L. "Grumpsy" Horton passed away peacefully at his home in Nashua, NH on April 25, 2023 surrounded by family. William was born in Mansfield, MA to his late father Alton "Pop" Horton and mother Edith (Engler) Horton.

William graduated high school in Somersworth, NH. At the age of 18, William joined the US Marine Corps and served for 3 years at Camp Lejeune, where he earned his rifleman's medal. After his discharge, William became a police officer in Somersworth, NH. William was a UPS driver for 34 years out of Dover, NH. He worked at Mobile on the Run in Epping, NH for 10 years before retiring to spend time with family and friends.

William spent most of his life as a resident of Rochester, NH. William wore many hats throughout his life. He was a Boy Scout leader in Gonic, NH, a member of the American Legion in Rochester, NH, and a member of the Moose in Claremont, NH. He enjoyed spending time playing horseshoes, fishing, and drinking beer by the campfire as a seasonal camper in Barrington, NH.  He loved visiting York Beach, ME and seeing Nubble Light House. But most of all, William loved being where the family was, being a husband of 54 years to Mary (Blaine) Horton, father to their children and a "Grumpsy" to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William is survived by his wife, Mary Horton, his children, William Horton II and daughter-in-law Melissa (Perreault) Horton of Pepperell, MA, Heidi (Horton) Walker and son-in-law Jerry Walker of New Carlisle OH, Thomas Horton and daughter-in-law Amy (Lucas) Horton of Drexel Hill, PA, as well as his grandchildren William, Megan, Bridgette, Abigail, Taylor, Andrew, and Alexis and great-grandchildren McKenzie, Jason, Liam, Colton, Eleena, and Mary.

There will be a celebration of life held at the family's residence in Nashua, NH on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 1pm-4pm, with a veterans ceremony and a short memorial service afterwards.
