William H Kidd
Bedford- William H Kidd, 93, of Bedford, formerly of Auburndale, MA, and Weston, MA, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the Bedford Falls Assisted Living Community in Bedford, NH surrounded by his family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the oldest son of the late Elbert and Ethel (Dobson) Kidd. Raised and educated in Auburndale, MA, he was a graduate of Newton High School. Later, he matriculated to Northwestern University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree.
A U.S. Navy veteran, William proudly served his country as a Lt. Commander on the US Phoenix in WWII and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. William, with his late wife, Patricia (Rowntree), visited Hawaii frequently for Pearl Harbor Survivor reunions and many countries throughout the world.
William worked for Honeywell in Boston and attended night school for his Mechanical Engineering degree. He also worked for Johnson Controls and then established his own company, K & H Controls.
One of William's favorite hobbies was flying small airplanes. He worked for Wiggins Airways and ferried planes throughout the country. He also enjoyed flying his family on vacations to Florida and the Bahamas.
William was incredibly talented with both his mind and hands. He was a registered pharmacist, working in his family's pharmacy for a number of years, a certified plumber, electrician and professional mechanical engineer. He created heating/ electrical plans for schools hospitals, businesses and one of his favorites was the Budweiser Clydesdales barn floor in Merrimack.
William was a 32nd degree Mason and was Master of the Joseph Warren Lodge in Lincoln, MA. He was a committed member for 44 years as well as a member of the Scottish Rite.
Affectionately deemed a train "fanatic", William traveled the world by train. He rode throughout Canada, Costa Rica, South America, Germany, Switzerland, and numerous other countries in Europe.
A devoted husband and father, William was the pillar of strength for his family. In his spare time, William enjoyed vegetable gardening and spending quality time with his daughter, Janet and her family. He will be best remembered for his generosity and sense of adventure. A dedicated father, grandfather, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
William is survived by his daughter, Janet Luca and her husband James of Sutton, and grandson, Kenneth Wetherbee of Sutton, and extended family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Gathering will be held in the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, on Friday, September 27, from 2:00P.M. with a Memorial Service at 2:30P.M. Friends and relatives invited. A reception to follow the service at the Cremation Society from 3:00P.M. to 4:00P.M.
