William “Bill” A. Lund, 81, of Ossipee, NH, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, NH.
Born on July 30, 1940, at Hazard Hospital in Long Branch, NJ to John A. and Florence (O’Meara) Lund.
Bill was a friendly man; he greeted everyone with a warm smile and a firm handshake or, for many of us, a warm hug. Many remember his striking blue eyes. When invited to do so, he provided sage advice. Often this advice or just a good listening ear was offered while sitting fireside on his back deck overlooking Duncan Lake. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. And when he smiled (which was frequent) he lit up the room. Bill was able to find friends wherever he went with his fellow motorcycle enthusiasts, time spent in the “Adventurer Campground” which he owned and operated for over 47 years. He spent many hours visiting with campers, many of which rented from him since inception of the campground. He was also a welcome and friendly face at a local pub (or two) where he visited with many dear friends. In his youth, he spent summers with family and his cousin Bobby Allen on the bayside in Leonardo, NJ. He always had a passion for the outdoors whether it be riding his motorcycles, steering his boat(s) driving his convertible, hunting or in his campground making sure everyone was happy and content.
Although Bill had several owned/operated companies over the years, his true passion was his trucking company, Bill Lund Trucking “BLT.” He and his faithful companion, Max (black Shepard) traveled together from coast to coast for many years, making friends along the way. He prided himself on knowing the highways and byways like the back of his hand. His children remember fondly the gifts he would bring back from various states; Charm lollipops and Vermont maple sugar candy, to name a few.
He is survived by his son, Shawn A. Lund and his wife Karen of Franklin, NJ; three daughters, Dawn V. Ahern of Stratham, NH, Laurie L. Chandler and her husband, Clarke of New Castle, NH, Lindsay F. Doucet and her husband Alan of Tiverton, RI; five grandchildren, Heather L. (Ahern) Armstrong and her husband Ryan of Stratham, NH, Stephen M. Ahern and his wife Samantha, Sarah A. Lund and her partner, Eric Strunk of Franklin, NJ, Sofie and Tyler Doucet of Tiverton, RI; four great-grandchildren, Ryder, Oakley and Kahleesi Ahern of Greensboro, NC and Carson Strunk of Franklin, NJ; sister, Lesley Verbeke and her husband, David of Fort Pierce, FL; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Florence (O’Meara) Lund.
