William O. Reichert

William O. Reichert, 83, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 16, 1919. He served as an officer in the First Armored Division in Italy and North Africa during World War II. As a result of that experience, he became a dedicated pacifist for the remainder of his life. He was also a civil rights activist during the early days of desegregation of lunch counters in Lexington, KY, while he taught at the University of Kentucky. He obtained a Ph.D. in Political Theory from the University of Minnesota and taught at various universities for over thirty years, retiring as chair of the Political Science Department at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Doris of Hanover; a daughter, Jean of Hanover; three sons, William Robert, Bowling Green, Ohio, and Bryant and Eric of Norwich. There are no services and memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.
