William (Bill) Robes, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 31, 2023, in Nashua, NH. He was born on October 4, 1933, in Needham, Massachusetts, son of the late Kenneth and Margaret (Rhodes) Robes.
Upon graduation from Needham High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force at Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, Texas where he was an aircraft mechanic and began his trade in welding. He worked for several years at Nim-Cor Corporation.
In his own words, Bill did everything he wanted to do. He will be proudly remembered as a hard-working family man who shared his knowledge with others and passed on valuable lessons with a witty sense of humor.
He was so passionate about the game of golf. One of his accomplishments was becoming a USGTA teaching pro. Although challenged with dyslexia, he wrote a book to help his students learn how to play. He was also respected for his outstanding coaching ability in tenpin bowling.
He loved baseball. He was a pitcher in high school and the American Legion league. One of his favorite activities was watching his grandson’s games and sharing play-by-play moments.
He shared his love of nature, all creatures great and small, especially raccoons. As a member of the Appalachian Trail Crew and a Boy Scout, there were many knots tied, fishing outings, and survival skills learned. His lessons and experiences will be remembered in the poems he wrote as well.
He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Cook) Robes. They were married on August 14, 1965 in Westford, MA. They began their courtship on the tennis court. They also enjoyed critiquing matches on the Tennis Channel, going to the ocean, bird watching, board games, and tenpin bowling.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Robert.
He is survived by his wife, Margo, children Heather Griebel and her husband, Greg, of Merrimack NH, Scott and his wife, Sherri, of Fitchburg MA, and Eric of Nashua. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Derek and Adam Griebel, Azrielyah Robes, and very special nieces and nephews.
The family asks to consider a donation in his name to NH Fish & Game, a local animal shelter, or to plant a tree.
