William Brad Schultz

William Bradford "Brad" Schultz died on Friday, January 8, 2021.

He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 7, 1934 to William, a swimming and fitness coach, and Alberta, a homemaker. The family moved to Sturbridge, MA when Brad was 15, and his brother, James, 13. Always a bright student, Brad received a scholarship to attend Brown University, where he earned a degree in Engineering, and developed an interest in computers.

After graduation, Brad served in the United States Army, working on early military computers. Following his military service, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked in a series of technology companies, honing his knowledge of software development and computer science. From that experience, he and four of his best friends took a risk, and created their own computer consulting company, Macro Corporation, near Philadelphia. That company grew to be a leading international corporation in the energy industry.

It was in Washington, D.C. that he met his first wife, Nancy Diemer. Together they and their son, Neil, lived for many years in Lafayette Hills, PA. He and his second wife, Barbara Ames, settled in Allentown, PA. His later years were spent in Kingston, NH, with Elaine, the love of his life.

Brad was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, historian, social justice advocate, athlete, and lover of the outdoors. He created gorgeous gardens in each of his homes, committed to creating green, peaceful spaces. In his elder years he was often seen hauling rocks for stone walls, driving his tractor to move trees, and spending whole days - dawn to dusk - tending to his meticulously landscaped projects.

He is predeceased by Nancy and Barbara, and his brother, James. He is succeeded by his children, Neil Schultz and wife Christina of Arlington, MA, Karen Straub of Kingston, NH, Michael Schultz and husband Chad Hudson of Union City, NY, Scott Schultz of Silver City, NM, Kimberly Raymond of Kingston, NH, and Todd Schultz and wife Susanna of Newton, NH, and is beloved by his many grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Due to COVID restrictions, his memory will be celebrated by close family and friends virtually, and a live memorial will be held later in the fall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his name to his favorite local Public Broadcast Station, WGBH, https://www.wgbh.org/.
