William J. Walsh Jr. passed away peacefully on May 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in Manchester, NH. He was born in Brooklyn, NY October 16, 1927 to William J. and Catherine (Keely) Walsh and joined his two sisters.
After fulfilling his original enlistment serving as a Sergeant in the Army, he reenlisted for an additional 18 months. He then continued to serve others as he embarked on a career as a police officer with the Nassau County Police Department until his retirement in 1982. During his career, he developed many lifelong friendships and was a well-respected member of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, always collecting money for those families in need, earning him his nickname of "Gimme a Dollar Bill".
During his retirement, Bill spent much time with his family and was always willing to help others with various projects. He always enjoyed a game of cards, absolutely loved dogs and was a devout Catholic. He was also a very dedicated card sender and there will be many who will miss receiving his thoughtful cards.
He leaves behind 3 children and their families: William J. Walsh III (BJ) and Arlene Davis and his son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Debbie Walsh, Bridget Polow and David, and their children, Hannah and Connor, Tara Walsh and Jim Mahoney and their son Basil. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Sue Surette, his sister Eileen Byrne, the mother of his children, Nancie Walsh, Mel and Sean Finley and many nieces and nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his dear son, Sean K. Walsh and Kitty Riel.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held at the Holy Rosary in Hooksett, NH on Saturday, June 2nd at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name can be made to The Humane Society of New Hampshire, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247
