Ralph R. Normand

Ralph R. Normand, 98, born in Biddeford, ME on May 17, 1926, passed away, on July 2, 2024. Ralph was predeceased by his wife of over 45 years, the love of his life, Jean L. Normand, on March 13, 2018, and daughter, Bonnie Olson on February 4, 2013. Ralph’s parents, William and Anne predeceased him in 1970 and 1989.

Raoul (aka Ralph) had 8 brothers and sisters. After 4 girls were born, his father was so excited to finally have a son; he ran all through the town announcing it! His only surviving sibling is his dear sister, Doris Rock of Maui, Hawaii.

In 1943 Ralph was seventeen and wanted to join the military but had to wait until he was eighteen. Ralph was determined not to wait and convinced his father to sign the consent forms, and enlisted in the Navy, joining the Seabees. He served in World War II in Okinawa.

Following the end of WWII in August 1945 he returned home and got a job in a shoe factory in Kennebunk, ME. After several years, he moved to Franklin, NH to start his career in Insurance at Prudential and later went on to open his own successful agency.

Ralph was a very active member of the Concord Country Club. He served on the board of directors and made many dear friends over the years. During his 47-year membership, he shot under his age over 1,000+ times and played in many NH State Amateur tournaments. Ralph was in a league of his own. He was a former World Super Senior Amateur Gold Champion at age 74 in Las Vegas in June 2000 and went on to play in the Super Senior Amateur tournament in Kapalua, Hawaii the following year, placing 4th. Jeanie faithfully accompanied him to these tournaments and was his greatest fan. Whether on the course at home or away in a tournament, he was a fierce competitor and perfected his game over the years. He was very proud of being the oldest member of CCC and he loved spending his prize winnings at the pro shop, and there were a lot of them!

Ralph was a natural storyteller and jokester. He loved to get everyone going with his “toasts”. Ralph had many special gifts. He loved baseball and had a great left arm and was a pitcher for all his high school years. He was also a very talented artist and won many awards for his drawings and paintings.

He is survived by his beloved dog Cocoa; daughters, Donna Schoenfeld of Concord, NH; Debora and her husband Jeff Lorden of Concord, NH; Pamela Littlejohns and her husband Calvin Magoon of Concord, NH; Lori and her husband Scott Davis of Carlisle, NC; Linda Katekaru of Kaneohe, HI; his son, Russell and his wife, Mary Chamberlin of Sylmar, CA; Tom Littlejohns and partner Gail Kenney of Canterbury, NH; Son-in-law, Robert Olson; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and loving friends. A special mention to his Niece, Donna, and her husband John McDonald from Ormond Beach, FL for always being there for her uncle before and during his declining health and their return to New England each summer.

Services will be held at the NH State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen on July 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at the Concord Country Club.
